53rd Annual Grammy Awards Nominations

I’ll be honest – the Grammys have been disappointing for a long time. While Katy Perry and Justin Beiber (really? Justin Beiber?) earning nominations for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards makes me shake my head in complete dismay, some of the other nominees this year are really stellar. Here’s some highlights of my favourite nominees (not necessarily who I think will or should win, but just the ones I love).

Love The Way You Lie- Eminem feat. Rihanna from the album Recovery. Nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Rap Song, and Best Short Form Music Video. Recovery is also nominated for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album.

Fuck You – Cee Lo Green.  Nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Urban/Alternative Performance and Best Short Form Music Video.

Empire State of Mind – Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys from the album The Blueprint 3. Nominated for Record of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Song. The Blueprint 3 is also nominated for Best Rap Album.

Florence & The Machine is nominated for Best New Artist. I’ll cry if the Beibs wins this category.

Hey, Soul Sister (Live) – Train. Nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Resistance – Muse from the album The Resistance. Nominated for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best Rock Song. The Resistance is also nominated for Best Rock Album. While I like Resistance, my favourite song from the album is Uprising.

My favourite category this year? Best Alternative Music album, with nominees Band of Horses for Infinite Arms, Broken Bells for Broken Bells, and Vampire Weekend for Contra.

You can find the full list of nominees at the Grammy website. The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards will be held on February 13th, 2011.
